Status and ecology:

A resident species, generally occurring singly or sparingly in a wide range of habitats, but sometimes fairly common at mv light in a few woods and lanes. Widespread but extremely local and episodic in appearance. Single-brooded, flying mainly from mid-June to early August. Larvae feed on alder, birch, crab-apple and sloe. (Pratt, 2011)
