Status and ecology:

A resident species usually occurring sparingly or fairly commonly, but it is occasionally common in deciduous woods. Well distributed in large areas, but perhaps in decline in central Sussex. High numbers are very local and distinctly episodic. This species is chiefly single-brooded occurring mainly from mid May to early July. An irregular partial second flight overlaps, this being recorded into the third week of August. Also noted at Wadhurst on September 13th 2006.Adults have been seen in every week from early April to the third week of August. Larvae feed on oak, (silver) birch and sallow (Pratt, 2011)
