Status and ecology:

A resident species usually occurring sparingly or fairly commonly at mv light in a wide range of habitats, but it is occasionally common to very common in inland deciduous woods and at rest in bushy places between Hailsham and Newhaven; scarce along treeless parts of the coast. Widespread in central Sussex, but missing from large areas elsewhere. High numbers are very local and irregular. Under-recorded, but in decline. This species is single-brooded occurring mainly from mid January to mid March, occasionally from early January or to the third week of April. Larvae feed on hawthorn and sloe. (Pratt, 2011)
