Status and ecology:

Resident species, usually occurring singly or sparingly at mv light in a wide range of habitats, but sometimes fairly common in woods and heathlands in the east where it is well distributed away from the downs but irregular in numbers in central areas. In danger of extinction in the west. Single-brooded, flying mainly from mid-May to late June. Larvae feed on alder and silver birch. (Pratt, 2011)
