Status and ecology:

A resident species occurring singly or sparingly in woods and heaths, but is often fairly common in parts of Ashdown Forest. Mainly confined to the extreme north of the county and near Rye. Single brooded flying mainly from early August to the third week of September, occasionally from late July. The larval foodplant is not known in Sussex, but birch and bilberry are listed elsewhere. (Pratt, 2011)
