Status and ecology:

A resident species, usually occurring singly or sparingly at mv light in a wide range of habitats but sometimes fairly common on heathland and less often along the coast. Widespread but in decline. Single-brooded, flying mainly from late May to late July. Larval food plants determined outside the region include dock, plantain and groundsel. (Pratt, 2011)
