Status and ecology:

National Status: Nationally Scarce B

National Notable Class B. First recorded on the downs near Brighton 1860. Then found in Lewis in 1950 and at Camber Sands in 1962 and continued to be found at the adjacent Rye Harbour until at least 1999. Larvae were thought to feed on the felt in the roof of huts, but they fed on animal refuse elsewhere. (Pratt, 2011)
