Status and ecology:

A resident species generally occurring singly or sparingly in a wide range of habitats especially within about seven miles of the coast. Very local and episodic in numbers. Single-brooded flying mainly from the second week of July to early September. Larvae feed inside stems of common reed. (Pratt, 2011)
