Status and ecology:

A resident species which is also a suspected immigrant. Usually occurs singly at mv light and sparingly at sugar and is occasionally seen flying naturally by day. Well distributed in the south but less so in the north and now missing from the north-west. Single-brooded flying mainly from late July to late October. Larvae feed on willow and poplar. (Pratt, 2011)
