Status and ecology:

National Status: Common

A resident species generally occurring singly or sparingly in wooded habitats in both vice-counties, although it is sometimes fairly common to common at mv light in parts of West Sussex. Well distributed in large areas, perhaps generally so. Single-brooded, flying mainly from late June to the third week of September, occasionally from mid June or to early October. Larvae feed on the catkins and young shoots of silver birch and alder. (Pratt, 2011).
