1722 Flame Carpet, Xanthorhoe designata (Hufnagel, 1767)

Status and ecology:

A resident that usually occurs sparingly in a wide range of habitats, but it is sometimes fairly common and occasionally common amoungst deciduous woodland. Well distrbuted in the west and far east, but declining in central Sussex. Vey local in numbers. Double-brooded, flying in overlapping flights which appear mainly from mid May to early July and again from late July to mid September. However, adults have been seen in every week from late April to early October. The larval foodplant is not known in the wild, although Cabbage, Wallflower, and other Cruciferae have been utilised in captivity. (Pratt, 2011)
