Notodontidae

2009 Maple Prominent, Ptilodon cucullina ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Status and ecology:

Resident. Generally occurs singly in a wide range of habitats but is occasionally fairly common amongst deciduous woodland. Well distributed in the far east and in the far west of the county, but completely missing from central districts. Very local if more than singletons are to be detected and elusive everywhere. Single-brooded, on average adults fly from the second week in June to late August. Larvae feed on field maple, occasionally on sycamore. (Pratt, 2011)
