2139 Red Chestnut, Cerastis rubricosa ([Denis & Schiffermüller], 1775)

Status and ecology:

A resident species which is often fairly common and sometimes common at mv lights in woods, but occuring sparingly along the coast. Widespread but very local in numbers. Single-brooded flying mainly from early March to early May. Larvae feed on common twayblade and a whole range of herbaceous plants. (Pratt, 2011)
